Employers in England have been urged not to wait until next year before banning smoking in their workplaces in a bid to protect the health of their staff.
The TUC said firms should not put off the "inevitable" ban, which is due to come into force in the summer of 2007.

Businesses are already "reaping the rewards" of a smoke-free culture, the Welsh health minister has claimed.
He made his remarks exactly six months before a smoking ban in enclosed public spaces comes into force on 2 April 2007
The ban will come into force in Wales a month before the assembly elections and at the same time as in Northern Ireland. |

A smoking ban is to be implemented in all Northern Ireland's workplaces and enclosed public spaces in April 2007.

Scotland is the first part of the UK to impose a ban. It became completely smoke-free in all enclosed public places from 6am on 26th March 2006.
Coinciding with Scotland's complete ban on smoking, Smoking, Health and Social Care (Scotland) Act 2005, state that all premises in Scotland must display no smoking signs conspicuously in all Scottish workplaces and commercial vehicles. |
